The collaboration alliance between LACNIC, APNIC and AFRINIC has been selected for its work in the use of ICTs for development

Seed Alliance, the collaboration alliance established between LACNIC and its Regional Internet Registry peers APNIC and AFRINIC has been nominated for the 2017 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Prizes. WISIS Prizes recognize global initiatives that contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals through technology.

Seed Alliance (http://seedalliance.net), an association between awards and small grants programs FRIDA (LACNIC), ISIF Asia (APNIC) and FIRE (AFRINIC), is now a finalist in the contest for the 2017 WSIS Prizes in the “Action Lines for Regional and International Cooperation category.”

In addition to the nomination of Seed Alliance itself, two Latin American and Caribbean organizations selected as winners by the FRIDA Program are among the finalists in different 2017 WSIS Prizes categories: Fundación Omar Dengo (Costa Rica) for its projects on learning robotics within a virtual environment, and Agrinett for its initiative to incorporate ICTs in the agricultural sector of Trinidad and Tobago.

WSIS Prizes have now entered the public voting phase, which will close on 30 April. Those interested in supporting the Seed Alliance or the nominated FRIDA initiatives can vote at https://www.itu.int/net4/wsis/prizes/2017/

Winners will be honored during an awards ceremony that will take place in June during the 2017 WSIS Forum.
